Bangers'n' Mash

Some images from a number of shows made in association with Vitamin S with the support of CNZ. Described (by me)

"Hosted by Vitamin S, ‘Bangers n Mash’ is a monthly collapsible performance platform for movement & noise artists. Housed in the cosy confines of Auckland’s Old Folks Association Hall eight artists (dancers & musicians) meet and are challenged with an opportunity to make something out of nothing - disposable choreographies/sound events in performance. Charming and unstable, ‘Bangers n Mash’ is a community event curated and MC’ed by Kristian Larsen"

The first of the series was in March 2015 at the Old Folks Association Hall (The Auckland Old Folks Association was incorporated in 1945 to foster gatherings among its members “irrespective of status or creed” in a hall designed for that purpose. In 2011 its purposes were extended to support arts and cultural production.)

For me the agenda was threefold. I wanted different generations of contemporary dancer to get the opportunity to perform together in a low stakes environment. Bring together the experimental music community with the contemporary dance community. And boost the morale off those communities with a low cost regular series of shows driven by improvisation. 

I have no recordings or photos of many of these events.

Bangers n Mash 2 in the beginning of May 2015 featured:Jess Quaid, Emmanuel Reynaud, Bella Wilson, and Adam Naughton with Paul Buckton, Hermione Johnson, and Aaron Longville.

Bangers n Mash 3 at the end of May featured Cathy Livermore, Sarah Elsworth, Xin Ji, Adus Smith, Drew McMilan Jeff Henderson, and Immi Paterson.

Bangers n Mash 4 on June 25th included Paul Young, Georgie Goater, Natalie Maria and Rose Philpott (regrettably I have no record or recollection of the musicians for this one). 

Bangers n Mash 5 held on the 23rd of July 2015 featured Anita Hunziker , Min Kyoung Lee, Zahra Killeen Chance, Kyah Dove, with Colin Woods and Paul Smith (aka Peace Myth aka Reverbaphon).

Bangers n Mash 6 on the 27th August featured Jonny Almario, Aloalii Tapu, Tallulah Holly-Massey, with Xin Cheng, Kevin Kim, and Paul Buckton.

Bangers n Mash 7 on the 24th September featured Claire O'Neil, Paul Young, Jess Quaid, Claire Luiten with Derek Tearne, Peter Willis, Colin Woods, and Rory Dalley.

Bangers n Mash - Final Countdown Series ('3' of 3-2-1) in January 2016 featured Hannah Tasker Poland, Rose Philpott, Emmanuel Reynaud, Zahra Killeen Chance with Andrew McLeod, Paul Buckton, and Phil Dadson.

 

 

Bangers n Mash (Yes Really) in December 2016 was the last  one for a good wee while. Featuring Anja Packham, Adam Naughton, Zahra Killeen Chance, Leah Carrell with Inda Yansane, Phil Dryson and Kristian Larsen.
